Volunteer Day

The MAD Crew spent a day at the Backpack 4 VIC Kids headquarters to find out exactly what it was all about.

What a day! If you have any free time and would like to spend a few hours helping out the team we know that they would appreciate it. The goal is to pack and send out at least 12 backpacks every day. That means that every day, someone has to:

  • check donations that have come and in sort them

  • pick items based on the age of the child that will receive the backpacks

  • check off all items to make sure that they are appropriate and will not trigger any bad responses, ensure they are clean and have no marks on them, make sure all items are included and no love has been missed

  • pack all items into a backpack, including essential items such as toiletries, clothing, sleepwear, a torch, blanket and a toy or activity (its amazing what can fit into a childs backpack!!!)

  • box all this up to be sent out to organisations

In addition to all of the above, there are hand written notes to be written for every single child, clothes to wash so that nothing goes to waste, labels to sort, emails to check, the list goes on and on.

If they were to do 100 backpacks a week - think of 100 backpacks, 100 books, 200 pairs of socks, 300 pairs of underwear, 600 items of clothing - which ALL needs to be donated and THEN packed and THEN delivered!

If like us, this is a little overwhelming you can reach out to the team to donate items (see their facebook or instagram page for what they need right now) or donate your time to pack bags, deliver bags or offer your expertise on their board.
